This page documents all the appearances of the Green Goblin/Norman Osborn that do NOT occur within the 616 Universe. The list below will contain the first appearance of the Green Goblin/Norman Osborn, but will NOT list all the subsequent appearances (for instance, all the appearances of the Green Goblin/Norman Osborn in the Ultimate Universe). The list below is annotated in chronological order of their publication date. Also, any appearances of the Green Goblin in which the character behind the mask is not specifically identified, we're including it in this list for completeness sake. Lo and behold the kingdom of Alternate Universe appearances of the Green Goblin and Norman Osborn!! ![]() So let's get started... Title: Not Brand Echh #6 (Feb 1968) Character That Appears: The Green Globule Comments: Not long after the birth of the Marvel Universe, an alternate (albeit satirical) universe was born as well. This off-beat take on both the Marvel and DC super heroes also featured satirical takes on the super villains. Which brings us to a confrontation between Spidey-Man and The Green Globule, in which Spidey-Man forcefully recruited villains to attend his wedding. The villains, including The Green Globule, reluctantly obliged. As an interesting aside, in the 2008 Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon series the formula that converted Harry and Norman into the Green Goblin was called Globulin Green. Probably not a homage to our villain from Not Brand Echh...but still worth mentioning. Title: Amazing Spider-Man AIM toothpaste exclusive (1980) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin Comments: Not 100% certain that it is Norman Osborn behind the mask, but its not stated who actually is...so for this goofy one-shot we'll keep it on the list for completeness sake. Title: Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe #1 (Nov 1995) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin Comments: The Green Goblin makes a single panel cameo when he, along with others, is depicted as a victim of the Punisher's kill spree. It is not clear who is behind the Goblin mask, but for completeness sake we'll assume it is Norman. Peter's death at the hands of the Punisher is depicted in the story (below), but we'll never know the exact circumstances of Castle's murder of the Green Goblin. Title: What if (Vol. 2) #86 (June 1996) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin Comments: Title: What if (Vol. 2) #105 (Feb 1998) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin/Norman Osborn Comments: Comments: Green Goblin doesn't debut until Spider-Man: Chapter One #8. The Green Goblin pops up again during a flashback cameo featured in Mutant-X #12. The flashback depicts the real Man-Spider (not the clone killed in Mutant-X #5) saving Gwen Stacy from the Green Goblin at the Brooklyn Bridge. Interestingly, it is the Green Goblin's neck that is depicted with the infamous 'snap.' It is never made clear in the story but it is possible that in this universe the Green Goblin 'died' that day, and perhaps he was healed by the Goblin Formula, just like his 616 counterpart. Interestingly, in this universe Harry appears to have the cornrow hairstyle whilst Norman does not, perhaps Mrs. Russell had cornrows?? Title: Vault of Spiders #2 (Jan 2019) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin Comments: The Green Goblin featured in this story is a resident of the universe in which Spiders-Man operates. The Goblin fights alongside of his other Goblin comrades creating the Goblin Night! They operate in service of the Queen but are quickly thwarted by the mysterious Spiders-Man. It is unclear if it is Norman Osborn behind the mask. Character That Appears: The Green Goblin Comments: The Green Goblin featured in this story is a resident of the radioactive universe that the Inheritors were trapped in after the original Spider-Verse storyline. This Green Goblin works for Verna (one of the Inheritors) and it is unclear if it is Norman Osborn behind the mask. Apparently this group of villains is responsible for the murder of all the other heroes of this world. After a few taunts and blows are exchanged between the groups, Ant-Man summons locusts that obliterate the villains...see results below. ______________________________________________________________________________ HONORABLE MENTIONS Title: Spidey Super Stories #10 (July 1975) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin/Harry Osborn Comments: This Green Goblin featured in the Spidey Super Stories series was actually Harry Osborn, so that's why they're listed in the honorable mentions. But this Green Goblin is worth including for his knack of stealing kid's toys from toy stores (as featured in Spidey Super Stories #10). Or the time he sabotaged a race in order to get the prize money using a mud-maker (as shown below from Spidey Super Stories #45). Or the time he stole halloween candy through a window of house party (as shown below from Spidey Super Stories #56). Title: Spider-Man 2099 #40 (Feb 1996) Character That Appears: The Goblin/Father Jennifer D'Angelo? Comments: There's a lot of controversy over the identity of this character, for a period of time is was implied that Miguel's brother, Gabriel O'Hara, was the one behind the mask. Eventually that was retconned and Father Jennifer D'Angelo was suggested as the original Goblin. I'm sure there will be more to this mystery in the future... Title: Spider-Man Unlimited (Vol. 2) #2 (Jan 2000) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin/Hector Jones Comments: This universe debuted as a cartoon and eventually a comic book. This Counter Earth did not have Norman Osborn as The Green Goblin, but check out those boxer briefs that Hector sports!! Title: Secret Wars: Spider-Island #2 (Oct 2015) Character That Appears: The Iron Goblin Comments: This is an honorable mention since its Tony Stark and not Norman Osborn, but since this story involves the debut of the Iron Goblin, its worth including. Also, considering the Stark/Osborn history, this is a perfect fit. Title: Web Warriors #10 (Oct 2016) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin/Harry Osborn Comments: Couple reasons to include this Harry Osborn-version of an alternate universe Green Goblin. First, his true face is the Green Goblin and Harry's is the mask, something similar to both the Earth-X and Spider-Man: Noir iterations of the Green Goblin. Also, since we're not tracking 616 Harry Osborn Goblin appearances on this thread, his AltU appearances as a Green Goblin are still game. Title: Web Warriors #10 (Oct 2016) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin/??? Comments: It is not clear who this Goblin was, it most likely not Norman Osborn, so we're putting it in the Honorable Mentions section. Title: Ghost Spider #2 (Jan 2019) Character That Appears: The Green Goblin/Gwen Stacy Comments: In this universe Gwen Stacy worked as hero alongside Spider-Man (aka Harry Osborn) but became a villain after accidentally killing her own father. Title: Infinity Wars Arach-Knight #2 (Jan 2019) Character That Appears: Goblin-by-Night (aka, The Green Goblin)/Harry Russell Comments: After the Arach-Knight helps to end his father's run as the Goblin-by-Night, Harry takes on the mantle, ironically freeing Norman from the burden of the Goblin. ![]() ![]() |
